The last of the major providers to do so, O2 have chosen to launch its 5G network in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough and Leeds and will expand this to cover a total of 50 cities and towns by 2020. The mobile giants are making it a priority to provide 5G at sites  where high network use is affecting the quality of its service, such as train stations and entertainment venues, with the promise of providing faster downloads, buffer-free streaming and more reliable connections. 

Already the last to join the 5G party, O2 will also be the only network to use equipment from suppliers other than the Chinese owned Huawei. Instead, it has chosen to stay with Ericsson and Nokia’s products who previously helped them roll out their 4G network. This announcement coincides with the delay in the government’s decision as to whether or not we should allow Huawei products in the UK’s rollout of 5G following their recent security breach scandal.
