Is the new LG G4 worth considering?

Owning an LG phone has traditionally been nothing to shout about, but with the release of the G2 back in 2013 the company has been producing high-quality phones ever since, and this year’s offering is no exception.

Pencilled in as a potential phone of the year challenger to Samsung and Apple, the G4 promises to be an alternative for those bored with a glossy plastic backing to their phone. We take a quick look at this new creation and whether it will prove popular enough to challenge the big boys in 2015.

Clad in real premium leather, this model certainly has visual impact and immediately gives the phone an expensive, organic feel. However, many are worried that this veneer will fail to hold up to the rigours of daily life and will begin to fade and age quickly – this isn’t a fine leather handbag or dashboard for instance.

However, with a range of colours to choose from, the positive side here is that there are options available to you without having to fork out extra pounds on a leather case.

The flagship feature for this phone is its large screen, which has remained at 5.5 inches but is now more colour-rich with a bright and accurate HD picture to show off your photos and videos.

This goes hand in hand with the hugely impressive rear camera which has been bumped up to 16-megapixels and is still one of the fastest on the market (its shutter speed is just 0.6 seconds). The front camera has leapt from 2.1 to 8-megapixels to match the ‘selfie’ power of an iPhone. Added up, this is a powerful bit of kit.

The LG G4 is scheduled for UK release in the next few weeks, but strangely has been out in its home territory of South Korea since April.

This model arrives to a rather large fanfare and consumers will be hoping it can live up to its billing as a challenger phone – but if real leather isn’t to your taste or you don’t have a big budget, you may have to look elsewhere for a smartphone that suits you.
