It’s predecessor, the Moto Z was announced in June 2016, so there is every likelihood that an announcement surrounding the Moto Z2 is likely in the coming weeks.
The Z2 is the next incarnation of Motorola’s Z model which featured an incredibly slim design coupled with innovative features such as the renowned fingerprint scanner and featured a 5.5 inch 1440 x 2560 display and it is very likely that the Moto Z2 will adhere to the same specifications.
Industry insiders have indicated that the Moto Z2 will be increased in thickness to reinstate the port for the headphone jack which was removed from the Moto Z which was received rather negatively.
Leaked images of the model have suggested that the Moto Z2 will come with a band that goes around the edge of the device which will allow for better radio access to the expected four antennas built into the phone.
So what of the technology? Early rumours suggest that the Moto Z2 will have fewer pixels but these pixels will be larger and this coupled with a dual lens camera will enhanced low light images.
It is also likely that the Z2 will also include optical image stabilisation and laser autofocus – both of which are likely to be of interest to mobile phone aficionados.
A longer-lasting battery is most likely further to the Moto Z’s slightly disappointing battery life and it is expected that improving both the battery life and camera will be top priorities for the Z2.
For the 2017 mobile phone user that is reliant on apps, a large and long-lasting battery is an absolute must.
It is anticipated that the Z2 will be powered by one of the best mobile chipsets around – the Snapdragon 835 chip and may well run on Nougat as well as Android.
The quirky feature of MotoMods which featured on the original Moto Z is very likely to be one of the Moto Z2’s key features. Current examples of this includes a projector and there is also some chatter about augmented reality features that may well be included as well.
