With the tech giant expected to roll out iOS 9 to all users before the end of 2015, an additional setting has been spotted by developers given early access to beta versions of the software.
The optional feature 'Wi-fi Assist' has been designed to actively monitor WiFi connection speeds and, when the signal becomes too weak or slow, the software will automatically make the switch to mobile data to maintain a connection.
In current Apple operating systems, users have to manually monitor their signal strength and make their own decision when to switch between WiFi and mobile data. This new option has been created to maintain a suitable internet connection, and this feature has been met by positive reviews from both users and developers.
The only obvious downside is for those on a capped data plan – if left unchecked, these users could see their bills skyrocket as the system makes the switch to mobile data autonomously.
'WiFi Assist' is the latest amendment to Apple's operating system that solves a niggling ongoing issue.
