Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) for Businesses

Supercharge your internet with FTTP, the fastest broadband option on the market!

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is a cutting-edge method of connecting your business to the internet. It works faster and more reliably than any other type of broadband, consistently hitting speeds of up to 1,000Mbps - 25x faster than standard fibre.

FTTP works by using fibre optic cables across the entire distribution network. You're connected directly to the exchange - no copper wire, no sharing with other businesses: just a steady, superfast connection you can rely on.

At Town & Country Communications, we specialise in setting up affordable FTTP systems for businesses in Dorset. Not only do we source the best broadband deals for your money, but we can handle your entire installation from start to finish. Your business will be able to start enjoying the benefits of FTTP in no time.

Fibre to the Premises FAQs

FTTP stands for Fibre to the Premises, also known as Fibre to the Home (FTTH). It’s a broadband network architecture that provides high-speed internet access directly to individual residences or business premises.

FTTP is considered one of the most advanced and fastest broadband technologies available, offering significantly higher speeds and greater bandwidth than traditional copper-based networks such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or cable. It can deliver symmetrical speeds, meaning the upload and download speeds are equal, enabling faster data transfer, seamless streaming, online gaming, and other bandwidth-intensive applications.

FTTP provides internet access through underground fibre-optic cables that extend all the way from the internet service provider's (ISP) central office to your location, hence the term "to the premises" or "to the home." More specifically:

  • The ISP deploys a network of fibre-optic cables, which are made up of thin strands of glass or plastic that transmit data using pulses of light. These cables are capable of carrying large amounts of data over long distances at incredibly fast speeds.
  • A fibre distribution point is then installed near your premises, such as a utility pole or an underground cabinet. This distribution point acts as a central hub where the main fibre-optic line is connected.
  • From the distribution point, individual fibre-optic cables are extended and connected directly to the premises they serve. These cables enter the premises through underground ducts or overhead lines.
  • To convert the fibre-optic signal into a usable form, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is installed inside the premises. The ONT serves as the bridge between the fibre-optic network and the customer's internal network.
  • The ONT is then connected to your network devices, such as routers, computers, or other internet-enabled devices. This allows you to access the high-speed internet provided by the FTTP network.

If you're unsure whether FTTP is available at your local address, visit the Better Internet Dashboard website.

This user-friendly website is designed to check numerous FTTP providers and also provides information on 3G, 4G, and 5G coverage. It aims to give you a solid idea of the services you can expect at your address.

To get started, simply enter your house name or number and postcode in the top right corner and hit "go." The most important section to pay attention to is the Service Providers section, where you can see which Full Fibre networks are currently live or planned for your address.

While the Better Internet Dashboard is a good starting point, it's important to note that it may not be 100% accurate. If you want to be absolutely certain, you can chat with our friendly team who will be happy to assist you further.

In our opinion, absolutely. FTTP offers lightning-fast speeds, surpassing other technologies by a large margin, as well as a reliably consistent connection. Its symmetrical speeds are especially valuable in business environments, where dozens if not hundreds of files are transferred every day.

If you'd like to delve deeper into the advantages of FTTP, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We'd be happy to discuss how FTTP works and explore the various ways it can benefit your business.
